Brunch on weekends is my favourite meal to share with friends, so I’m always on the lookout for good places. Perry’s in Adams Morgan had been on my list of places to try for years now. I texted my friend Claire, and we made plans to go there today. Since it’s Saturday, I didn’t get to experience their famous drag brunch (where entertainment is provided by a drag queen as you enjoy your buffet brunch.) that I’ll have to return for soon. I noticed a sushi bar as well. Sushi bar in a restaurant that serves contemporary American food? But Claire noted that she’d heard good things about their sushi. Fine. Save that for another time, because today I was craving American food.
We chose to sit at a low table with couches, next to the window. Both of us ordered the jumbo lump crab cake sandwich. We asked our waiter to switch out the fries for salad instead. The crab cake was very good, but I would have preferred the brioche to be less dry and a tad more buttery. When our food arrived, Claire and I HAD to take iPhone snapshots of our meal before we ate. We’re Asian. 😉 It’s part of the dining out ritual.
The meal concluded with a delightful strawberry shortcake. It’s so true that having colour rich foods on your plate help to increase your appetite. I’m not a big fan of strawberry shortcake, but thoroughly enjoyed this one. How they presented it on the plate was pleasingly eye-catching. Whole, juicy sweet strawberries sat on top of a slice of shortcake, drenched in a sauce that didn’t overwhelm with nauseating sweetness. And having the cream on the side was a great touch – I could choose to use as little or as much of it as I wanted. The perfect end to a relaxed, Sunday brunch.
